The Stolen Valentine

Authors

Chiya was on his way from Lilongwe. He was driving his x2 Mercedes Benz. Something about this car made it feel very special to him. From the well balanced steering system, to the confortable seats of the car, all made the him feel like he was a starfleet pilot piloting a state of the art spaceship. It was around 10pm and the rain was falling softly. The sound of the soft rains mixed with the music being played through the perfect sound system of the car made him feel alive. He always felt like this when he was driving his Valentine. That's what he called his car. He feel in love with it at first sight. When he was passing at Kristwick filling station as he saw the cars that were displayed there one caught his eye. The way its sleek body perfectly complemented with the red color of the car made him fall for it.

The next day He went straight to buy the car.

"I'll call her Valentine", He said as soon as he fininshed the transaction.

From there Valentine was his pride. It always found a way into most of his pictures and he always bragged about it to his friends.

"Have you seen my baby, she is the best in the world." He always used to say.

A few miles after passing Chingeni turn off something caught his eye. A man and a woman were standing beside the road waving at his car. Him being generous decided to stop and help them. The man and the woman were wearing face masks so he could not see their faces cleary.

"Hello, what are you doing at night in the middle of nowhere?" Chiya asked.

"Stealing your car!" The man shouted.

"Now get out of the car!" He went on as he pulled out a gun.

Chiya went into shock. What could he do. Its not like he could stop them, he could do nothing but cooperate. He decided that he would at least remember the thief who stole his Valentine. So he tried to look for identifying features of the thieves. The man had a definite scar on his forehead and the woman had a tatoo on her hand and she had a limp on her left leg.

"Get out of the car right now!" The woman shouted.

Chiya jumped out of the car and the thieves went into the car and drove away. His valentine was gone. Why was she gone he wondered. Chiya believed in destiny, everything happens for a reason. Maybe he was too attached to a car that he started putting it before things that mattered he thought. Or maybe he bragged too much, or he was too proud about it.

"Aaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!" Chiya shouted.

What could he do now. He stood beside the road and started waving at every car that passed by.

"Thank God they didn't kill me." He thought.

Luckily a car pulled over. He laid out the whole story of what had happened to the driver and he decided to help him. The man took him to the nearest police station where Chiya filed a report for his missing car.

Three days later and the police had not yet found his car. It was Valentine's day.

"Ironic huh." Chiya said to himself.

It was Valentine's day and he didn't have his Valentine. It's not like he did not have another car but Chiya decided that today in memory of Valentine he would not drive any car. He decided he would use public transport.

"Amwene mukwera!" One conductor shouted before he even reache the stage.

"Ya Limbe!" He continued shouting!

"Amwene kwerani iyi, mwatsala amodzi." Another Oitanira minibus

shouted as he pulled him towards another minibus.

"Amwene kwerani ino,Limbe" Yet another oitanira minibus

shouted.

Chiya boarded the closest minibus to him.

"Why do these oitanira minibus treat us like this?" Chiya randomly asked as the minibus started moving.

"Eti, Why cant they just leave us alone." One of the passengers replied.

As Chiya looked to his side to look at the one who had replied, he was dazzled. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Chiya was completely captivated by her beauty. Chiya stole glances at her throughout the whole journey. As much as he tried to look away, she was like a magnet, pulling his eyes in her direction forcefuly.

They continued throughout the duration of the journey talking about different things, from oitanitira minibus abuse customers even to political issues.

"Alipo otsika pa Chichiri" The conductor asked. "Eya!"

Chiya and the girl replied simultaneously. The bus pulled to a halt and they both unboarded the minibus. Soon after getting off the minibus Chiya took the small street that led directly to his office. He was suprised to see the girl walking in front of her going into the

same direction as him. Chiya picked up his pace to catch on with her.

"Hello again miss." Chiya greeted her. "Are you following me?" The girl asked.

"Ummmm, actualy not, am actually going to my offife." Chiya answered.

"And it happens to be in the same direction you are going." He added.

"What a coincidence." The girl thought out loud. "What is your name by the way?" Chiya asked. "Am Tamandani." She answered.

"And you?"

"Am Chiyamiko." Chiya replied.

He was really into this girl. From her gorgeous face, her perfect figure even to her tantalising smile. Everything about her made Chiya feel like he was on the moon. It was just like the way he felt when he met Valentine.

"So where exactly are you going." Chiya asked.

"Victory Insurance Solutions." She replied. Woooow. To Chiya this sounded like destiny. "Woooow, that's actually where I work."

There was no coincidence with Chiya. To him everything happened for a reason. So he decided that he will pursue this lady. Who knows, maybe she could be a lucky charm and his Valentine would be found again. Chiya thought.

"Woow, what a beautiful coincidence" Tamandani replied as they reached the premises of the company.

"Come straight to my office, I'll be the one to assist you." Chiya told her as he led her to his office.

"You didn't tell me you were the CEO." Tama asked when she saw the door to Chiya's office. On the door were words written, "Chiyamiko Chuma(CEO)".

"It's actually not a big deal." Chiya replied.

After seating down chiya asked her why she was here. Tama told him why she was there and Chiya assisted her through everything. By 11 o'clock everything was done but Chiya stalled the work for another hour.

"Let me treat you to lunch." Chiya offered as soon as everything was done.

"But.."

"Dont wory, just please let me do this for you." Chiya cut her before she could say anything.

She reluctantly agreed and he took her to the restaurant close to his office. They took the veranda seats at the restaurant and ordered some food. They started eating and talking oblivious to the trouble that was brewing in the horizon. A brand new white Mercedes Benz x5 pulled up at the restaurant.

The car looked exactly like Valentine except for the colour. The door of the car opened and a man came out of the car. He could never forget that man. He was the man who had stolen his car.

Chiya had memorised every detail he could remember about him. This was the same guy. He had repainted his Valentine and changed the plates.

Before Chiya could open his mouth the guy walked to his table with his face boiling with fury. Chiya looked at Tama and he could see that she was scared, as if someone had signed her death sentence.

"Who are you? And what are you doing with my girlfriend?" The car thief asked.

"And Tama, who is this? I told you if I catch you with anyone else I'll kill you!" He shouted as he pulled out his gun.
